Asheville Humane Society

2009.11.02
The ole 'Pound' as it was called when I was a child. I remember going here when I was around 10 - 12 years old.

A 'CREW' group at Evergreen Community Charter School 7th grade, chose to take on the cause helping animals this year. They call themselves 'Paws and Hands Unite'. This is their orientation trip to the Asheville Humane Society where they will be volunteering this year as well as at Pet Harmony (post on 9.29

This is the cat room. Unlike at Pet Harmony, these animals are not allowed to be out of the cages unless someone is holding them. Then, they are not allowed to touch anything but 'laps' because of germs and cross contamination.

'Please take me home with you!' I was so sad when I looked at this photo....I see a tear I didn't see when I took it. I left wanting to take all of them home with me.

'Is anyone down there?'

'I can't quite reach you.'

'All I want to do is play.'

The dog room.

The dogs are allowed to play in this small area when someone comes to play with them.

'Oh, he peed on me!' This puppy was so excited, he couldn't help himself.

Charlie, learning to clean it up.

Disinfecting the floors after the play session.

Back to the cage...

Olivia said, 'he likes me'.

This is the new facility that is expected to be completed in the spring of 2010. I sure hope this place will be a much needed improvement from what these animals have now.
SPAY AND NEUTER.......the shelters are so over populated with unwanted animals that need a home and someone to love.
