Tuesday was a very productive day with a visit to Leonard Cheshire Diasbility's (LCD) headquarters in London.
http://www.lcdisability.org/
"Leonard Cheshire Disability supports over 21,000 disabled people in the UK and works in 52 countries.
We campaign for change and provide innovative services that give disabled people the opportunity to live life their way."
It was great to meet Wendy and Desiree who have worked very hard along with GSK's PULSE Porgram Office to make volunteer assignments like mine come to life. So much time has been spent working over email and on the phone with LCD. It's great to finally meet them!
We also met with the head of the South Asia region for LCD. Imtiaz shared some really insightful thoughts on Sri Lanka and LCD's progress there. This sparked a lot of ideas!
My role with LCD in Sri Lanka will be to work on a five year strategy to expand the availability of resources in the country to reach out to more people with diabilities (PWDs).
Daryl, the other GSK PULSE volunteer working for LCD, came to the meetings as well. Daryl and I will meet in Sri Lanka when he arrives in January. It was great to get to know him before departing.
We all made it out to lunch together before Lisa and I headed back to the airport. We were able to get a walk in past Buckingham Palace on the way to Heathrow before sitting on the plane for 11 hours. As luck would have it, the changing of the guard was taking place as we walked by.
